Fire heavily damages building that contains fire dept. in eastern South Dakota town

LAKE NORDEN, S.D. (KFGO KWAT) – A major fire broke out Wed. morning in a building that includes the volunteer fire department in Lake Norden, south of Watertown.

The Hamlin County Sheriff’s Office says the fire was at the public safety building. That included operational space for Lake Norden’s Fire and Police Departments, and the ambulance service.

Fire departments from Lake Norden, Estelline, Hayti, Badger, Castlewood and Bryant, along with the South Dakota Highway Patrol, Codington County Search and Rescue and Hamlin County Sheriff’s Office were sent to the scene.

There is no immediate indication of how the fire started or the extent of damage.
