The fight over all kids getting a hot lunch at school continues. The Republicans in the North Dakota Senate killed a bill that would have given those meals to our students. Then you all kicked in. Through the radio, as well as my last post, I’ve asked you to call, write, and stalk your legislators until they reconsidered. Now, the House did just that. They tapped into the appropriation for K-12 for the money needed to fund it. The Republicans in the Senate now have one more chance to do the right thing. I only plead with you to not let up.
I do have an example of where their priorities are when it comes to our public schools. Right now, Republicans have 10 million of taxpayer dollars going to private schools. Money that could be going to the public school system is instead, heading to private schools throughout the state. Private schools have the option of taking any student they want, and living by whichever rules they choose. If you’re from Drake, Wishek, Bowman, or Hankinson for that matter, where is the closest private school for you? There’s not one that you can easily access, much less be approved to get into. All of this and we haven’t mentioned how those dollars could be used to lower your property taxes.
So once again, it’s up to you. You have to put the heat on the Republicans to stop this. They need to keep public dollars public, and put them to work in our public schools. One more time, you need to call, write, and stalk your legislators just to get the Republicans to do the right thing.
Donald Trump was arrested this week with 34 felony counts. He flew into New York to be arrested and taken into custody. He’s being accused of shuffling campaign dollars to hide his affair with a porn star, Stormy Daniels. Money was paid to keep her quiet, but it didn’t work. She not only kept the $130,000, but she made sure the world knew about it. The question of the day is, where did the money come from? And if it was campaign funds, was it handled properly?
In other words, this is one more example of the cover-up being worse than the crime. But then again, that’s always been his problem. Only this time, it might require the truth.
Good riding with you,
Joel
