MINNEAPOLIS (KFGO/WCCO) – Union workers at dozens of Cub Foods stores will hit the picket lines early Friday morning.
The United Food and Commercial Workers Local 663 represents more than 3,000 employees at 33 Cub locations. Union leaders said employees have been working without a contract for about a month, after their last contract negotiated in 2018 expired.
Wages for both full and part time workers are an issue. Cub offered raises of $2.75 over the next two years, but the union is seeking $4 over the same period.
Cub management said they’re disappointed in the strike vote, but hope to reach an agreement.
Under Minnesota law, union Workers must wait 10 days to officially go on strike, but they plan to picket at all 33 stores Friday and Saturday, take Easter Sunday off, and go back to work Monday.
Beyond that remains to be seen.
