ST. PAUL, Minn. – The Campaign to Save the Boundary Waters is hosting a state capitol rally Wednesday featuring polar explorer Will Steger.
Environmental groups and citizens are calling on Minnesota lawmakers to protect the Boundary Waters Canoe Area from the threat of proposed sulfide-ore copper mining.
A bill in the Minnesota House closes a gap in existing state and federal statutes that mandate the permanent protection of the Boundary Waters from any pollution, ecosystem alteration, and risk of degradation to its air, water, forested landscape, or other natural conditions.
It does not impact iron or taconite mining.
