ST. PAUL, Minn. – The Minnesota House Transportation Committee is giving the green light to a bill renaming a stretch of Highway 5 in Chanhassen as the Prince Rogers Nelson Memorial Highway.
Republican Rep. Shane Hudella of Hastings said it’s the first bill he’s co-authored with a member from the other side of the aisle.
“[I’m] very grateful to MnDOT for making the exception on the sign. It’s got to be purple, we know that,” Hudella said. “I look forward to partying like it’s 1999 when this becomes law.”
It would designate seven miles of Highway 5 from I-494 to Audubon Road where Prince’s Paisley Park is located.
Local organizers have raised all the money for the road signs.
The bill was sent to the House Ways and Means committee.
