HARWOOD, N.D. (KFGO) – A Vietnam veteran was laid to rest at the Fargo National Cemetery on Tuesday.
Pedro Hernandez served in the U.S. Marines and has lived in Fargo-Moorhead for many years. He doesn’t have any family in the area, but does have a brother in Arizona.
“It was his and his family’s request to at least have the military honors since he was a Marine who served our country,” Korsmo Funeral Home Director Tom Pence said.
Pence said they announced the burial on social media and only expected a handful of people, but around 125 showed up.
“It’s always such a delight to be here because the community support is so positive and abundant,” Fort Snelling National Cemetery’s Sammi Korinek said. “I was so thrilled – surprised, but not shocked that this was the turnout.”
Hernandez was 72.
