FARGO, N.D. (NDSU Athletics) – North Dakota State University head men’s basketball coach David Richman announced the signing of Dezmond McKinney to the 2020 recruiting class on Saturday, May 2.
McKinney is a 6-foot-2 guard from Raytown, Mo., and Raytown South High School. He will join the Bison for the 2020-21 academic year and basketball season.
McKinney averaged 14.3 points, 4.1 rebounds, 3.6 assists and 2.5 steals as a senior in 2019-20, helping to lead Raytown South to a 25-3 record. He was named all-district and all-state in Missouri’s Class 4.
“Dezmond has a huge chip on his shoulder to compete against the best, continually grow his game, and win,” said Richman. “He is an explosive athlete who will bring a different dimension to our group on both ends of the floor. Most importantly, Dezmond is a great young man who understands our winning, family culture and wants to help continue building on our successes, on and off the court.”
Raytown South advanced to the state semifinals before the tournament was cancelled, and finished the year as the No. 1-ranked team in the Kansas City metro area in 2020.
North Dakota State has earned four NCAA Tournament berths in the past seven seasons. The Bison swept The Summit League’s regular season and tournament championships in 2020.
