UPDATE
WINSTED, MINN. – A man has died after an hours-long standoff Monday with police in Winsted, Minnesota. The man shot two McLeod County sheriff’s deputies earlier in the day, which led to the standoff.
In an update around 6:30 p.m., police said the suspect was found dead inside a home in the city of Winsted, located about 50 miles west of the Twin Cities metro area. The circumstances of his death are not yet known.
McLeod County Sheriff Tim Langenfeld said the incident began Monday morning as two deputies attempted to execute an arrest warrant. The officers made entry into the home and shots were then fired at them, resulting in the officers’ injuries. The two deputies were taken to the hospital. Both have been released and are back home with their families.
Authorities said they tried to contact the suspect over the phone but were unsuccessful in their efforts over the course of the afternoon.

WINSTED, Minn. – Two deputies were shot and wounded while trying to serve a search warrant at a home in the southern Minnesota town of Winsted on Monday.
McLeod County Sheriff Tim Langenfeld said The deputies made contact with the subject of the warrant and entered the home around midday, at which point rounds were fired. The two deputies were taken to a hospital with injuries that were not considered life-threatening.
The sheriff said the suspect remained in the home late Monday in a standoff with law enforcement.
Langenfeld said the suspect was believed to be the only person in the house, so authorities planned to take things slowly. The sheriff said he believed the warrant was for child pornography but added that he wasn’t certain.
Officers from the Minnesota State Patrol, the Minnesota Department of Natural Resources, Winsted police and the federal Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives were on the scene.
Children in a nearby daycare were evacuated with an armored vehicle.
