WAHPETON, N.D. (KFGO) – A man was arrested by Wahpeton Police Sunday night following a high-speed chase. Officers responded to a report of a stolen vehicle being followed by friends of the owner.
Officers spotted the stolen vehicle in the 200 block of Dakota Avenue and attempted a felony stop. The driver fled for several blocks before he stopped and fled on foot through a residential neighborhood.
He was taken into custody a block from where he abandoned the stolen vehicle. Police Sgt. Matt Anderson says one of the officers held the suspect at gunpoint until a backup officer arrived and the man could be handcuffed. Anderson says a firearm was also recovered at the scene.
The man was arrested for burglary and two vehicle thefts that took place over the weekend. He’s suspected in a number of other burglaries and thefts. Formal charges are pending. His name has not yet been released. He’s believed to be homeless.
