Burn the Bird is an annual tradition for many families in the FM area. In fact, it is a tradition to many families who travel to the FM area to celebrate Thanksgiving with family or friends.
2022 is the 10th year that runners, walkers, stroller pushes and more have lined up in downtown Fargo at the YMCA for a 5k or 10k. All ages gather in all manner of costumes (the pumpkin pie hats are my favorite) and enjoy a group of roughly 1,000+ other runners.
Bill Schalow from Sole Motion Race Management is always wearing a big grin…even when past races have dipped below 0 degrees. His team puts together the race as well as the timing elements (it is a chip timed race) and as they celebrate their 10th year, there are no signs of slowing down.
The best part of Burn the Bird is that this race is also a fundraiser. A portion of proceeds goes back to the YMCA to help fund their LIVESTRONG program, which helps cancer survivors regain physical stamina and muscle after undergoing treatment.
So if you don’t have anything planned for the early part of your Thanksgiving, join us at the downtown Fargo YMCA for Burn the Bird. Registration info below.
