GRAND FORKS, N.D. (KFGO) – A 28-year-old man was taken into custody in East Grand Forks yesterday after being pursued by police to multiple locations on the North Dakota side of the border before fleeing to Minnesota.
Grand Forks police were originally dispatched to the Walmart parking lot on a report of a car driving on the sidewalk midday Tuesday, but before they arrived the driver – identified as Kyle Tischler of unknown address – was reported to have moved to a residential address where he was alleged to be threatening to shoot a woman.
Officers confirmed the woman was safe, but were then notified that Tischler was at a nearby gas station and had stolen some items there.
Police finally caught up to Tischler in a grocery store parking lot where he was driving around erratically.
At that point, he fled, driving over the grass and sidewalk and into oncoming traffic on 32nd Avenue S. When officers attempted to make a traffic stop, Tischler refused to stop and sped away, again driving into oncoming traffic on South Washington Street, at which time the pursuit was terminated in the interest of public safety.
A Grand Forks Sheriff’s Department deputy then saw the suspect’s car drive across Kennedy Bridge into Minnesota.
The East Grand Forks Police were notified and found the car within minutes. Tischler was located nearby and was taken into custody at that time.
Charges of Reckless Driving, Reckless Endangerment, Fleeing in a Motor Vehicle, and Terrorizing are pending.
