MOORHEAD (KFGO) – Rob Kupec, a former television meteorologist in Fargo, defeated former Moorhead city councilman Dan Bohmer in the Minnesota District 4 State Senate race Tuesday.
The final tally in the race was 15,959 (52.49 percent) for Democrat Kupec to 14,202 (46.8 percent) for Republican Bohmer.
The last several weeks of the campaign took a negative turn when the DFL Caucus ran attack ads against Bohmer, based on Bohmer’s divorce court documents.
“I was disgusted and horrified,” Bohmer said. “It’s a horrific ad and it’s just inconceivable that anybody would think that this is something that would be appropriate for a campaign.”
Kupec said he had no knowledge of the ads.
“I despise the negative tone of political campaigning in recent years, and was surprised to see the ad against my opponent that was created and released without my knowledge,” Bohmer’s opponent, DFLer Rob Kupec said in a statement.
Kupec and his family moved to Moorhead in 2000. He was Chief Meteorologist at KVRR-TV from 2013 until he left the station to pursue the senate seat earlier this year.
