FARGO (KFGO) – The Fargo Police Department is continuing to investigate a 2020 murder after one of the suspects in the crime was arrested and charged this week.
In a post to the department’s Facebook page, Capt. George Vinson called Tuesday’s arrest of Joshua Brooks a ‘milestone’ in the investigation of the drive-by shooting death of Santino Marial, but the case is not closed.
“Since the arrest on Tuesday, officers have followed up on newly acquired information,” Vinson said.
Vinson said they have been in contact with Marial’s family both in the United States and his home country of Liberia.
According to the Cass County State’s Attorney’s Office, a cooperating defendant said Brooks, 30, planned the shooting and was the driver when Marial was killed and two others were hit by gunfire on the night of Aug. 28, 2020.
According to the cooperating defendant, as they drove by the three victims, who were standing in an open garage at an apartment complex at 1104 44th Street S., Brooks pointed out Marial as the person they were looking for. They circled the apartment complex and back to the garage. As they drove by the second time, shots were fired.
Brooks has been charged with murder and aggravated assualt. He faces up to life in prison and is being held on a $1 million cash bond.
