MOUNTRAIL COUNTY, N.D. (KFGO) – Three crew members working on a workover oil rig near Stanley in northwest North Dakota were injured after an explosion and fire on the site Friday night.
Mountrail County Sheriff Corey Bristol said the oil well site is owned by Chord Energy and was being serviced by crews from Blackhawk when the fire occurred.
The three workers who were injured in the blast were transported to the hospital with burns – a company spokesperson said those workers are in stable condition.
The flames could be seen from the nearby town of Ross, North Dakota. The fire was contained to the site location and the well has been secured.
An investigation into the cause of the explosion and fire is being conducted by the companies, OSHA, and state regulatory authorities.
Emergency crews from Stanley and New Town also responded to the scene.

Any names? My so works there and haven’t been able to contact him. We live in different states I am really worried…
The sheriff and the company did not release the names, I’m sorry. We will inquire.
Christi – feel free to email me if you are still looking for additional information (click on my name and it will take you to my email) – Tasha, reporter, KFGO
Any news on who was injured?
We have requested the names and updates on their conditions from the sheriff, Chord (the company), and the state but have not heard back yet. OSHA public affairs said they will release additional information on completion of their investigation but it was unclear how long that would take.
