WASHINGTON, D.C. (KFGO) – South Dakota U.S. Sen. Mike Rounds is introducing legislation that would blacklist China, Russia, Iran and North Korea from investing in or buying land or businesses in this country.
Rounds, a Republican, said it’s designed to stop projects like the Fufeng corn milling plant in Grand Forks. Fufeng has ties to china.
“We know that it’s an issue in North Dakota right now,” Rounds said. “And we know that it is significant in other parts of the United States. What we want to do is make it clear that it is not just the countries China, Russia, North Korea, and Iran that may very well try to have ownership, but what they do is they get agents to come in on their behalf. So, we’ve written legislation to make it clear that it’s not just the countries themselves.”
Rounds, like some opponents of the Grand Forks plant, cites national security concerns with the plant’s proximity to the Air Force Base.
