FARGO (KFGO) – NDSU is eyeing the demolition and new construction of one of its seven engineering buildings.
Michael Ellingson, Director of Facilities Management at the university says the engineering administration building would be leveled and infilled with a new facility that will tie into existing engineering buildings.
The two-story round building is easily recognizable on campus. Built in 1965, Ellingson says the building is outdated and has no elevator, and is not A-D-A compliant. He says the cost of repairs would likely be more than building a new facility.
The estimated cost is $98 million. It would be 75% state-funded, and 25% coming from private sources.
The State Board of Higher Education will review the projects at its meeting Thursday. If approved, projects would be forwarded to the governor and legislature for later decisions.
The proposed project represents the number one priority selected for each of the state’s eleven institutions.
