MOTT, N.D. (KFGO KCND) – Sanford Health says it may give the nursing home in Mott to the city as a gift, instead of selling it.
In doing so, Sanford also agreed to remove a deed restriction, that would have prevented the facility from being used for health care purposes, once it is sold.
On May 24, Sanford announced it would be closing the Good Samaritan facility by July 22nd, because of increased operating costs, difficulty hiring staff and a lack of long term sustainability.
But during a call Tuesday with Gov. Doug Burgum, Sanford President and CEO Bill Gassen indicated a willingness to give the facility to the city of Mott, according to a statement from Burgum’s office. Sanford representatives plan to meet with city leaders in Mott today.
Mott Republican Senator Don Schiable said all the town wanted was the ability to keep an option available for residents, families, and workers.
“The business model of closing little facilities and creating bigger facilities in bigger cities probably makes a little more sense financially, but it certainly does not help communities, it does not help families. And just because they’re not making money at it doesn’t mean a community can’t change the business model,” he said.
Burgum said he appreciates Sanford’s willingness to meet with the Mott community.
