law enforcement responds to Mott-Regent Public School
MOTT, N.D. (KFGO) – A sheriff’s deputy who shot and killed a man causing a disturbance at the Mott-Regent School in April will not be charged by the Hettinger County State’s Attorney after a review of evidence presented by the state Bureau of Criminal Investigation.
The Hettinger County Sheriff’s office has released additional details about the incident, which took place as school let out on Apr. 21.
The deputy responded to the school for a disturbance call related to a child custody dispute. Jeffrie Ray Glover, Jr was instructed to leave the school, but refused. When two students exited a locked door into the school’s common area, Glover tried to get into the locked area.
The deputy attempted to prevent him, removing his Taser and warning Glover to stop. When Glover did not stop, the deputy deployed the Taser and placed Glover under arrest.
While he was being handcuffed, Glover assaulted the deputy, who deployed his Taser a second time. During the assault the Deputy briefly lost consciousness and Glover managed to get on top of the deputy.
Glover put his arm on the deputy’s neck and applied pressure. He also attempted to get the deputy’s secured knife.
The deputy, feeling himself losing consciousness a second time, unholstered his gun and shot Glover a single time.
The deputy then attempted lifesaving medical interventions, including CPR. A responding paramedic attempted additional advanced life support interventions, but Glover died at the scene.
