NDSU President David Cook speaking outside Old Main on first full day of work.
FARGO (KFGO) – North Dakota State University’s 15th president, David Cook spent his first day on his new job Tuesday. He said he’s “super excited” to be on campus and spent much of the day in meetings with his cabinet, system office personnel, board committees, and NDSU Faculty Senate leadership.
“Probably here from day one throughout the summer it’s going to be a lot of listening getting out there and listening to what people have to say with field days. I’m going to criss-cross across the state for two weeks with field days, hearing what everybody across the state is looking for in the new president,” Cook said.
Cook realizes the importance of the impact the university has on the community. He wants to address sloping student retention rates and continue to strengthen relationships with local businesses with student internships that will hopefully lead to jobs, and keep them in the state of North Dakota.
Cook comes from the University of Kansas where he was Vice Chancellor for Public Affairs and Economic Development. He was named to the post by the State Board of Higher Education in February, one of three finalists.
Cook replaces Dean Bresciani, who stepped down after 12 years at the helm of NDSU to become a tenured professor in health sciences and education.
