ROME (Reuters) – Italy will donate an additional 31 million COVID-19 vaccine doses through the COVAX facility to help poorer countries, Prime Minister Mario Draghi said on Thursday.
“I can announce that Italy will donate an additional 31 million doses through COVAX and we are also pledging 200 million euros via the ACT-Accelerator,” Draghi said in a videomessage to the Global COVID-19 summit in .
The COVAX facility, backed by the World Health Organization (WHO) and the Global Alliance for Vaccines and Immunization (GAVI), has delivered 1.49 billion COVID-19 vaccine doses to 145 countries, GAVI data shows.
