WEEKLY FISHING UPDATE – APRIL 28, 2022
Few fishing reports are available since most anglers have put away their poles until the Minnesota Fishing Opener on May 14. Some anglers, however, have begun fishing Minnesota’s streams and rivers, as well as Minnesota lakes that are free of ice.
According to the Minnesota Department of Natural Resources, anglers need to be very cautious due to extremely cold water this time of year. Learn more about cold water dangers.
| NORTHWEST REGIONMost of Lake of the Woods remains covered in ice, but open water exists, especially where streams and rivers flow in and out. Some of the bays are open or partially open for those who want to fish for northern pike. Water flows are high on the Rainy River so anglers are advised to wait a while until the debris settles and the strong current subsides. |
| CENTRAL REGIONAreas of open water are expanding on Lake Mille Lacs. Ice is piling up at the shorelines and islands. | |
