FARGO (KFGO) – The North Dakota Highway Patrol is partnering with law enforcement agencies on a high-visibility enforcement campaign for what’s known to many as the “420 marijuana holiday.”
April 20, 4/20, is the unofficial, marijuana-centered holiday familiar to pot smokers. This year, authorities across the state will have 13 new Drug Recognition Experts working in an attempt to keep drug-impaired drivers off the road.
Drug Recognition Expert Coordinator, Trooper Tarek Chase said the experts are specially trained to identify substances other than alcohol in a suspected impaired driver, getting them off the road and making North Dakota roads safer.
The 4/20 enforcement effort is underway now through Wednesday, April 20.
The campaign is one part of a joint effort to help meet North Dakota’s goal of “Vision Zero,” zero motor vehicle fatalities and serious injuries on state roads.
