GRAND FORKS, N.D. — Senior goaltender Zach Driscoll has inked a professional contract with the Toledo Walleye of the East Coast Hockey League (ECHL) on Thursday afternoon, as announced by the club. The contract is an amateur tryout agreement for the remainder of the season.
Arguably, no goalie was better during NCHC action than Driscoll. The fifth-year player ranked in the top-2 for wins (15), save percentage (.919) and goals against average (2.17), with the save percentage leading the league to earn All-NCHC Second Team honors. He saved his best play for late in the season, earning NCHC Goaltender of the Month honors in February after going 7-1-0 with a .941 save percentage, 1.74 goals against average and one shutout. The Apple Valley, Minn., native rode a nine-game winning streak, the longest of his career, to help North Dakota reach the NCAA Tournament for the second straight season.
Overall, Driscoll led the Fighting Hawks with a 22-11-1 record in 34 appearances with a 2.34 goals against average, .908 save percentage and two shutouts. His 757 saves this season were third among NCHC goaltenders while his 22 wins were third in the league and fifth in the country.
Off the ice, Driscoll is a four-time AHCA Division I Krampade All-American Scholar honoree, a three-time WCHA All-Academic selection and a finalist for the 2021-22 Senior CLASS Award, presented to the top senior-athlete in collegiate hockey.
Driscoll is the second member of the 2021-22 Fighting Hawks to ink a professional deal, joining defenseman Jake Sanderson’s contract with the Ottawa Senators on Sunday.
