STUTSMAN COUNTY, N.D. (KFGO) – ND Highway Patrol attempted a traffic stop on I-94 last night which ended with a man being transported to a hospital with severe hypothermia.
The ND Highway Patrol attempted to pull the suspect’s car over after clocking it traveling at 98 MPH on I-94 five miles east of Jamestown just after 7 p.m. Monday. The car sped off, taking the Spiritwood exit and traveling north on county roads until it left the roadway and got stuck in a slough. The driver, a 22-year-old male, fled on foot, wading and swimming into the water. Two adult passengers remained in the car and were detained by the pursuing officer.
Additional troopers as well as officers from the Stutsman County Sheriff’s Dept commenced a search of the slough and located the driver, who had become hypothermic and needed to be carried out of the water.
The incident remains under investigation and charges will be forthcoming.
