FARGO (KFGO) – The US Attorney’s Office for North Dakota says it has reached a settlement with the company that owns Jefferson Bus Lines to resolve a claim that it violated the Americans with Disabilities Act.
A passenger filed a complaint saying a driver would not let them use their walker on the lift on the rear of a bus and they had to walk the length of the bus and go down the stairs. An investigation found that between January of 2017 through early August of 2020, Jefferson Lines received 24 disability-related customer complaints.
Under the agreement, Jefferson Lines will better train its drivers and require that they know how to operate mobility equipment. The equipment must also be tested weekly.
The company will pay $5,000 to the passenger whose complaint prompted the investigation.
