COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – After earning three of the month’s four weekly awards, senior goaltender Zach Driscoll has been named the NCHC’s Goaltender of the Month for February, as announced by the league office on Tuesday.
The senior was stout throughout the entire month for the No. 4 Fighting Hawks, posting a 7-1-0 record with a .941 save percentage, 1.74 goals against average and one shutout. Of those seven victories, five came against ranked opponents to help UND jump to its highest ranking in the polls all season and sit just one win away from its third straight Penrose Cup.
Driscoll saved some of his best performances for the end of the month, currently riding a six-game winning streak to match the longest of his career. During the streak, the Apple Valley, Minn., native tallied at least 33 saves in three of those contests, including a season-high 36 saves at No. 7 Minnesota Duluth. He helped collect sweeps over Colorado College, at Minnesota Duluth (the first since 2015) and vs. Western Michigan.
He has been collecting wins against ranked opponents all season, going 12-8-1 with a 2.52 GAA and .907 save percentage. He has won his last four against foes inside the polls.
On the season, Driscoll is 19-9-1 overall with a 2.37 GAA, .907 save percentage and two shutouts. In league play, the senior leads the NCHC in save percentage (.922) and goals against average (2.07) while ranking second in wins (14).
North Dakota closes out the regular season at Baxter Arena this weekend against Omaha at 7:07 p.m. You can hear Tim Hennessy’s call on The Mighty 790 KFGO.
