HASTINGS, Minn. – The sentence is nine-and-a-half years in prison for a Hastings man who provided the heroin that led to a fatal drug overdose.
Dakota County prosecutors say 42-year-old Jason Slattum pleaded guilty to third-degree murder in the July 2020 death of 50-year-old Michelle Cahill. Hastings police located Cahill unconscious on her bedroom floor and were unable to revive her. The autopsy determined she died of mixed drug toxicity heroin and fentanyl.
Cahill’s husband told investigators that they purchased heroin from Slattum the night before she died.
