Riese Gaber named NCHC Forward of the Week
Sophomore forward tallied career-high four points in Friday win
COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (UND Athletics)– Sophomore forward Riese Gaber was named NCHC Forward of the Week on Monday following a four-point weekend in the win and tie over No. 6 St. Cloud State, as announced by the league office.
Gaber helped engineer the largest victory over the Huskies since 2010 on Friday night, scoring a pair of goals and adding two helpers for a career-high four points. After an assist on the game’s second goal, the Gilbert Plains, Man., native capped off a three-goal period for the Fighting Hawks with his first of the night to extend the advantage to 3-0 after 20 minutes.
The sophomore helped put the game away in the third period, assisting on Ashton Calder’s second goal of the night before capping off the evening with his second strike of the game and seventh for UND in the 7-1 trouncing.
Gaber paces the team with 11 goals and 26 points on the season, both matching or surpassing last season’s totals. The sophomore also leads North Dakota with five power play goals, all numbers that rank inside the top-10 in the NCHC.
The recently named Hobey Baker Award nominee is 13th in the nation for scoring among underclassmen and second in the NCHC.
North Dakota returns to the ice on Friday, Feb. 4 against No. 18 Omaha at 7:07 p.m. from Ralph Engelstad Arena.
