AUSTIN, Minn. – The Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension is investigating a fatal shooting incident that happened last week involving an Austin police officer.
Police say the man was holding a knife when he confronted officers in a gas station parking lot Thursday. Those officers were responding to reports of a man armed with a machete who had been walking in and out of traffic.
Tasers were ineffective and the man walked into a nearby apartment complex and started threatening to hurt people. He finally walked to the gas station at about 9:30 p.m. Thursday and was shot during the confrontation.
