MOORHEAD, Minn. (KFGO) – Seven members of a Moorhead family from Honduras whose bodies were found inside their home last weekend died of apparent accidental carbon monoxide poisoning.
Police Chief Shannon Monroe said that is the conclusion of the Ramsey County Medical Examiner’s Office, which examined the bodies. Blood testing confirmed the findings. Relatives discovered the victims Saturday night when they went to check on them.
Monroe says a carbon monoxide detector was located in a cabinet in the laundry room with the battery removed. Neighbors said the children were last seen Friday. Monroe said the carbon monoxide came from either the home’s furnace or a van in the garage. He says it could take several weeks to determine whether the furnace or the van was a factor in the deaths. The victims ranged in age from 5 to 37.
Family members have described the family as happy people who were relieved to get away from the turmoil in Honduras.
