MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. – The Racial Justice Network is demanding an end to all high-speed police pursuits.
Several teenagers have died in those chases in Minnesota in recent months. The organization released a statement Saturday calling on Governor Tim Walz, Minneapolis Mayor Jacob Frey, and other elected officials to enact a ban on the pursuits in Minnesota. Two teens were killed last Thursday, with three more injured in a police pursuit that ended in a crash in northeast Minneapolis.
The group says there have been at least five crashes resulting in nine deaths during police pursuits in Minnesota over the last 14 months. Network member Sonja Western calls them senseless deaths “that can and should be prevented.”
