POWELLS POINT, N.C. – The North Dakota State men’s golf wrapped up the fall semester on Tuesday with a sixth-place finish at the ODU/OBX Intercollegiate Invitational held at the Kilmarlic Golf Club.
North Dakota State fired a -2 round of 282 as a team in the third and final round of the event, falling one place from Monday to finish sixth overall in the 17-team field. Despite falling in the team category, all five Bison would progress up the individual standings.
Brock Winter led the way for the Bison on Tuesday, shooting a -2 round of 69 for the second-straight day to finish in a tie for ninth overall. Winter was +1 through 10 holes with a pair of birdies, but the sophomore fired three birdies over the final eight holes to surge up the leaderboard. He finished at -2 for the tournament, improving 16 places on the final day.
Joining Winter in ninth overall in the 88-golfer field was Nate Adams, who carded a -1 round of 70 to close out his tournament. Like Winter, Adams had a pair of under par rounds over three days. Adams moved up 11 places on the final day, largely in part to four birdies over the final seven holes.
Gavin Cronkhite would score third for NDSU after an even-par round of 71. Cronkhite had four birdies and 10 pars on the day, including back-to-back birdies to close the front nine at -1. He would have one birdie over the final nine holes, moving up from 38th at the beginning of the day to finish in 28th place at +2.
Ian Simonich would wrap up the scoring for the Bison in the final round, shooting a +1 round of 72. Simonich had a pair of birdies and was sitting at even par with two holes remaining, but carded a double bogey on 17. He responded with a birdie on the final hole to move up two spots on the day to 12th overall, finishing at -1.
Jack Johnson wouldn’t score in the team category for the Bison on the final day, but he too moved up the leaderboard, as he shot a +2 round of 73. Johnson, who started the day in 54th, carded three birdies in his round and finished the week at +8 in a tie for 47th.
With the end of the ODU/OBX Collegiate, the Bison will head into the winter break competitively. The spring 2022 schedule will be announced at a later date.
