The Moorhead boys’ soccer team punched their ticket to the Minnesota Class AA state tournament Thursday night, winning a thriller over St. Michael-Albertville on penalty kicks in the section 8AA championship game.
The Spuds’ Colin Baumgartner tied the contest at 1 with just a minute remaining in regular time. Moorhead prevailed over the Knights in penalty kicks 3-2, as senior midfielder Luqman Ali delivered the deciding goal.
The state AA tournament will be held October 26th-28th, where the top five teams will be seeded, with the three other qualifiers being randomly drawn.
