FARGO (KFGO) – The risk of significant flooding in Fargo-Moorhead has all but disappeared.
Mayor Tim Mahoney says the melt has been near-perfect and his level of concern has dropped.
“We’ll probably hit a lower crest, 34, 35 (ft.) and then also, we’ll probably crest April 1, so about 10 days from now, eight days from now I guess, the first or second week, we think we’ll hit that crest,” Mahoney told KFGO News and Views host Joel Heitkamp.
Although it will be a major flood over 30 feet, there’ll be some disruptions over the bridges as you know, but we should be able to weather this quite nicely without having to put any sandbags out,” Mahoney added.
Volunteers and city employees built a stockpile of more than 220,000 sandbags earlier this month, which would be shared with Cass County where flooding in rural areas is still a possibility.
The sheriff’s office has activated its tactical operations center. Sheriff Jesse Jahner says the center will be staffed from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday-Friday, with quick response for flood-related calls or Covid-19.
