FARGO, N.D. (KFGO) – Fargo City Commissioner Tony Gehrig plans to “float” a new plan for server training. The Fargo police department has been conducting the monthly training for managers and employee’s who handle alcohol but he says it’s time for a change. He’ll recommend every holder of an alcohol license in the city take over the mandatory server training.
Gehrig says police can no longer keep up with compliance checks of Fargo’s 200 liquor establishments which are required by law to be done four times a year. He says his plan is “prudent” and will free up police resources to do those checks. He says it will be up to every license holder to determine how to train their own employees. The individual bar server training curriculum would have to get police approval and could be phased in.
Gehrig says the most difficult part of server training now is getting into the server training classes. Four are offered monthly and fill up immediately and if the training is not completed, those bars and restaurants are not in compliance with city ordinance. He believes most business owners will like the plan which he says should mean fewer training hassles.
