City property for sale in downtown Fargo, 401 3rd Avenue North.
FARGO, N.D. (KFGO) – Fargo city commissioners have authorized the sale of the old health building downtown. Strategic Planning Director Jim Gilmour says the city property at 401 3rd Avenue North, vacant for more than a year, is an appropriate redevelopment site. There will be 60 days for developers to respond with an offer.
Gilmour says the building could be reused, or demolished for new development on the site. Several groups have already expressed interest in the two-story brick building.
City Commissioner Dave Piepkorn recused himself in order to avoid a conflict of interest. He is part of a group looking at the possible purchase of the building.
Mayor Tim Mahoney says the city is not committing to the sale of the building but will examine offers made.
Most recently, Fargo-Cass Public Health and the police department used parts of the building. At one time, it was the offices of NSP, now known as Xcel Energy.
