GRAND RAPIDS, Minn. – Smoke being blown south from wildfires in Ontario and Manitoba has pushed air quality into the “very unhealthy” range over a large swath of north-central Minnesota.
An alert is in effect until 6 a-m Thursday. David Brown with the Minnesota Pollution Control Agency says areas of particular concern are Brainerd up through Cass Lake and the Leech Lake Tribal Nation, Bemidji and the Red Lake Tribal Nation, and up to the Canadian border.
Smoke is also affecting northwestern Minnesota and the Iron Range, and Brown says it’s beginning to reach the northern edge of the Twin Cities.
Forecasters also believe smoke in northern Wisconsin could be pushed into southeast Minnesota, making air quality unhealthy there also for those with respiratory or other conditions.
