MOORHEAD (KFGO) โ Monday nightโs storm knocked out power to thousands of customers Monday night across the region including the Fargo-Moorhead metro.
Much of Moorhead was without power for more than five hours. Moorhead Public service Manager Travis Schmidt says the storm hit around 10:30 p.m. The outage was caused by a lightning strike that hit one of the city substations and straight-line winds that toppled a half-mile of transmission lines south of Moorhead.
Power was restored to most customers by 3:30 a.m. but there were scattered outages that took longer to restore.
Xcel Energy and Cass County Electric Co-operative also reported outages, including rural customers.
