TRAILL COUNTY, N.D. (KFGO) -The North Dakota Highway Patrol has identified the driver who died in a head-on crash near Hillsboro during a pursuit as 31-year-old Randy Cole and the passenger as 24-year-old Elena Fladeland. She was taken to Sanford Hospital in Fargo with serious injuries Both have no permanent address and were not wearing seat belts.
Wednesday morning, Grand Forks County deputies on patrol spotted a car that had been reported stolen in Grand Forks. An attempt to make a traffic stop failed and Cole headed south on I-29 at speeds exceeding 100-miles-an-hour.
Stop sticks were deployed and the car’s front tires went flat, but Cole continued to flee on the front rims. The vehicle entered a construction zone, crossed the center line into oncoming traffic, and collided with a northbound semi.
The semi-driver, from Winnipeg, had minor injuries and was treated and released from the Sanford Hillsboro Medical Center.
