COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo.– North Dakota hockey players continue to dominate National Collegiate Hockey Conference monthly awards this season, picking up two more for February. Junior forward Jasper Weatherby was named the player of the month while junior Adam Scheel went back-to-back with a second goalie of the month honor. The pair helped North Dakota go unblemished in February (5-0-0), outscoring opponents, 23-6, for the month.
The honors are the fourth and fifth for UND, respectively, this season of the nine month awards given (player, goalie, rookie). North Dakota has won the player of the month in all three months (Jordan Kawaguchi, Shane Pinto, Weatherby) while Scheel is the winner for the last two goalie of the month accolades.
Weatherby led the NCAA in goals per game in February (1.20), scoring in all five UND games as part of a current seven-game scoring streak. He led the NCHC in goals with six, points with 10, PPG and GWG for the month as North Dakota claimed the regular season championship and climbed back atop both national polls. Weatherby tallied three multi-point games in February.
Scheel continued his dominance of late, charting a month that saw him go 4-0-0 with a 1.01 GAA and a .960 save percentage. He led the NCAA in both categories and allowed just four goals in his four starts, posting three wins over a nationally-ranked team while adding a shutout in the other start. He sits second in the country in wins (16) this season and her now ranks in the top 10 at UND in career wins.
The top-ranked Fighting Hawks host 12th-ranked Omaha Friday in the regular season finale followed by the NCHC Frozen Faceoff, an eight-tem, single-elimination tournament set for Ralph Engelstad Arena Mar. 12-16.
