ST. PAUL, Minn. – State health officials say lower COVID numbers and case positivity rates are good signs, but there is concern about an uptick in cases caused by new variants.
The Minnesota Department of Health’s Kris Ehresmann says, “The B-117 strain is thought to be more easily spread, and there is some concern that it may have a greater likelihood of causing more serious illness.”
Twenty-two new cases of the U-K variant were confirmed for a total of 40 in the state, and there have been two cases of the Brazilian COVID variant. She says Minnesota will reach one-million vaccines administered this week.
Some shipments have been delayed due to winter storms.
