- North Dakota’s own Attorney General, Wayne Stenehjem filed a lawsuit in the state of Texas to overturn the election. The North Dakota lawsuit in Texas, along with the 60+ other Trump lawsuits failed, because lawyers like Wayne could not convince judges of all political stripes that there was wide scale election fraud. Unfortunately, these losses have not stopped the steady drum beat of lies coming from North Dakota’s Republican officials regarding election security in other states.
- It is fair to ask, why in the world did Wayne get involved in the lawsuit? The answer is because Wayne needs to stay in the good graces of the Republican Attorneys General Association, a dark money group, which has funded Wayne’s campaigns and allowed him huge opportunities to travel the world without letting the people of North Dakota know who is paying for the travel and the perks. Wayne does not want to give up that gravy train, so he goes to court in Texas and embarrasses North Dakota.
- Now we find out that this same dark money group shoveling money to Wayne, paid for the rioters to go to DC and take over the Capitol. This Republican Attorney General dark money group funded the buses and got people on buses by doing robocalls saying “At 1:00 p.m., we will march to the Capitol building and call on Congress to stop the steal. We are hoping patriots like you will join us to continue to fight to protect the integrity of our elections.”
- Is this really the role of the states’ chief legal officers? I thought the Attorneys General were responsible for maintaining the rule of law and supporting law enforcement in keeping the peace. This is what happens when you sell the Offices of Attorneys General, including North Dakota’s, to the highest bidder. Money gets the attention, not principal or the law.
