FARGO, N.D.- Friday night saw the No.2 Fargo Davies Eagles travel to West Fargo to face off against the No. 5 West Fargo Sheyenne Mustangs. The Mustangs looked to bounce back from a tough loss to West Fargo in the season opener while the Eagles sought to stay hot after a pair of wins over Wahpeton and Valley City. Fargo Davies had won the previous 5 regular season meetings between the two teams, but Sheyenne emerged victorious in their most recent meeting in last season’s EDC championship game.
From the opening tip, Fargo Davies jumped out to a slim 4-2 lead, but West Fargo Sheyenne went on a run to take an 11-4 lead. That cushion proved to be too much for the high powered Davies offense to come back from, as Sheyenne’s defense was able to lock down the Eagles for a 75-64 win.
West Fargo Sheyenne’s senior forward Jah’Heem Leake had a quiet first half only scoring 2 points, but he exploded for 16 second half points and a pair of two-handed jams to lead the Mustang’s to their first win of the season. This victory brings West Fargo Sheyenne to an even 1-1 this season.
Although Fargo Davies was on the short end of the scoreboard, Eagles’ senior guard Latrel Davis led all players in scoring with 25 points, 18 of which came in the second half to keep his team within striking distance of the Mustangs. This loss drops Fargo Davies record to 2-1 after three games this season.
Both teams will next play on Tuesday, December 22nd. Fargo Davies will host West Fargo and West Fargo Sheyenne will travel to Devil’s Lake. Both games are scheduled for a 7:15 tipoff.
