FARGO (KFGO) – Fire has gutted a large building west of downtown Fargo.
Until several years ago, Woodchuck Furniture Restoration occupied part of the metal building at 1418 and 1420 1st Ave. N.
Fire Marshal Ryan Erickson says within a half-hour of the call at 3:01 Sat. afternoon, the blaze became a three-alarm fire prompting an early call-in for the next shift of firefighters and assistance from the Moorhead and West Fargo Fire Departments.
Erickson says fire crews didn’t know what was inside, so they had to battle the flames from outside until it was safe to go inside. In recent years, dozens of statues of various sizes have surrounded the building.
Building owner Gary Rinehart, who stood by across the street, says no one was inside when the fire started and he doesn’t know what may have caused it. An investigation is underway.
Police blocked off a section of 1st Ave. for several hours. FM Ambulance and the Salvation Army also responded to the call. There were no injuries.
