IN THIS PODCAST: RaeAnn Kelsch was the North Dakota Legislator who was the primary sponsor on the Anti-bullying legislation passed in 2011.
And, while Kelsch explains that the bill does not include ‘parental notification’, the bill does require each school to have an anti-bullying policy.
And, the policy template given to schools, drafted by the North Dakota School Board Association, does include parental notification. In fact, notification to both the victim’s parents and the ‘bully’s’ parents.
Other states require schools to develop local policies on parental notification. They include Delaware, Florida, Georgia, Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Michigan, Minnesota, Montana, New Hampshire, Ohio, Oklahoma, Tennessee, Texas, Utah and West Virginia. (
