In This Podcast: Former North Dakota Governor Ed Schafer talks about his relationship with George Sinner, the former Governor who passed away on Friday.
He says former Democratic Gov. George Sinner will be best remembered for steering the state through some very difficult times.
Sinner was governor during a severe drought and a slumped economy between 1985 and 1992. Schafer, a Republican, who immediately succeeded Sinner, says an early partisan relationship with Sinner eventually grew into a friendship. Schafer defeated Democrat Nick Spaeth in the 1992 election.
“Our initial relationship was pretty partisan” Schafer told KFGO News. “We started developing a governor-to-governor relationship. It’s a pretty small fraternity. Our relationship really unfolded since both of us were governors. That was a nice rewarding relationship.”
