FARGO, ND (KFGO) – Residents of a 24 unit apartment complex in Fargo are left without a home after an early morning fire Sunday.
At 2:44 Fargo Firefighters were dispatched to an apartment building at 910 33rd Ave North for a report of a structure fire.
Fire crews discovered heavy fire conditions. The fire had already breached the attic space and was burning through the roof. Flames grew rapidly due to winds gusting over 30 mph and it eventually destroyed the roof. The fire grew to three alarms.
During the fire, part of the stairwell ceiling collapsed on one of the interior search crews. One firefighter received minor injuries but was able to continue assisting in the search.
Crews were able to ensure all residents were out of the apartment building.
The Red Cross was on scene and assisting the residents with temporary housing. Several pets were rescued by firefighters. Unfortunately, several were also lost to the fire. The cause of the fire is under investigation. A damage estimate is not yet available.
The Fargo Fire Department responded with 33 personnel on 6 fire engines, 2 ladder trucks, 2 command vehicles, 1 fire investigation vehicle, and 1 support truck. The fire department was assisted by Moorhead Fire, the Fargo Police Department, FM Ambulance, the Red Cross, and the Salvation Army.
