As the filing deadline for the Fargo city races approaches (April 9th), the ballot is filling-up.
With every candidate on the ballot having a track record for service and activism, this is – in our opinion – maybe the most qualified candidates for Fargo City Commission ever!
Since this race is held during the June primary, it will be interesting to see how the Republican house race shakes out at the convention.
If the candidate(s) not endorsed decide to take their fight to the primary ballot, that could mean some big support for candidates like Tim Flakoll, who is a former State Senator.
From KFGO News:
FARGO (KFGO) – City Commissioner Dave Piepkorn has made up his mind, he has decided to run for reelection to the commission. Also filing for candidacy is former City Commissioner Linda Boyd.
Piepkorn, who considered a challenge to Mayor Tim Mahoney, says he gets along well with Mahoney and is not ruling out a run for mayor in the future.
Piepkorn says he considers permanent flood protection a top task for the commission, along with civic center expansion and a review of property tax rates and other priorities.
Boyd is a member of the Fargo School Board and is executive director of the Fargo-Moorhead Symphony Orchestra. She served two terms on the city commission.
Commissioner Tony Gehrig, former St Sen. Tim Flakoll, community activist Lenny Tweeden, former three-term commissioner Mike Williams and former two-term commissioner Arlette Preston are in the race for two contested seats on the five-member commission. Piepkorn was first elected in 2008 and served four years. He was elected again in 2014.
The two contested seats are now held by commissioners Gehrig and Piepkorn.
