Amy Iler and JJ Gordon chat with Dean Haugo about Moorhead Public Schools announcement that they have officially added varsity and junior varsity lacrosse to their high school athletic program. With a Spring 2019 start time right around the corner, the schools, the students and the parents are gearing up for an exciting new sport!
(High school lacrosse is one of the fastest growing sports in Minnesota)
Moorhead High is now the 86th school to add boy’s lacrosse and the 84th school to add girl’s lacrosse. Moorhead Public Athletic/Activities Director Dean Haugo explains the process on how the student driven want was balanced with the established clubs and the challenges of finding referees, equipment and coaches was easier than originally thought.
“We are very grateful and blessed to have the vote pass unanimously,” says Matt Gilbertson, President of the Moorhead Lacrosse Booster Club. “Our oldest kids that have been playing lacrosse are going to be seniors and we wanted them to be the first to play for the Spud lacrosse team. In the grand scheme of things it is big for Moorhead Schools, the community and lacrosse in the city and the region.
