Julie Garden-Robinson, from NDSU Extension, joins Amy & JJ to give us some tips when picking the best produce!
First, don’t worry about that “crack” inside the watermelon. But, do worry about washing the melon before cutting and eating!
Oh, and our Farm & Ranch Director says she has the best way to pick out a watermelon: listen for the “hallow” sound! (8:10)
Second, don’t bring “looks” to picking out produce. The shape doesn’t matter!
It can be “homely” and still be good for you!
Look for color, heavy compared to size, and something without soft spots.
Need suggestions on where to store your produce? Look around the grocery store! The stores are giving you a pretty good idea on where to store your food.
And, if something is going to spoil before you use it? Pop it in the freezer!
